Farm Wisdom
Trying to transplant beets and peas in a steady rain kinda sucks. Trying to transplant beets and peas in a steady rain for five hours while suffering with hiccups the whole time is miserable. My back is screaming and I have spit out enough mud to plant at least three more beets. And no matter how many times I brush my teeth they still feel gritty. It’s a cruel universe that curses me with daily hiccup fits. Cruel.
Spent a lovely afternoon with a friend checking out a few of the old, small local cemeteries. I’ve been driving past two of them for years now and never knew they were there! So beautiful and peaceful, overgrown and lost out in the woods. Even found markers bearing the names of neighboring roads and landmarks so I can tell which families have been in the area for a long time.
Just a wondrous way to spend an afternoon with a friend.
Snow day
Well, it only snowed a little bit today but it was really cold and icy. Really too frozen and windy to go out for longer than needed to feed the horses and get back inside.
Decided it was a good day to huddle under the cat and read a book or three.
Decided it was an even better day to make pie so I did. Angel doesn’t like fruit pie. “I like fruit and I like pie but I don’t like fruit pie,” he proclaims. So I made an apple pie and didn’t even have to share, except with my mom who loves all pie without prejudice.
Tomorrow’s weather is supposed to be even colder and windier. Wonder what kind of tasty treat I’ll make to pass the time. Got some fresh eggs so maybe I’ll make up a batch of bread.
